The body of a newly-born female child was found at the side of the Thornhill to Callander road near Dunblane 26 August 1952.

The post mortem on the child stated that the child had been suffocated and had been the victim of foul play. The pathologist said that the child had been born alive and had died after having portions of newspaper shoved down its throat.

The child had been found lying among pieces of newspaper, garbage and potato peelings.

It was thought that the child had been taken to the spot in a garbage pail, probably by car, and disposed of the previous night, 25 August 1952.
