Noel Smith was murdered in Limehouse, East London on 20 June 1988.

He was a taxi driver and it was suggested that there was a maniac knifeman with a grudge against taxi drivers killing them after John Landa was murdered in Nottingham in 1982, Sarfraz Ahmed was murdered in Peterborough on Tuesday 15 November 1988 and Derek Brann was murdered on 6 November 1988.

He had been repeatedly stabbed in the neck and chest whilst driving, causing him to crash his brown Vauxall Cavalier car into a lamp post in Limehouse.

Three witnesses then saw a man running from the scene. He was described as:

  • White.
  • About 20 years old.
  • About 5ft 9in tall.
  • With brown hair.

The police said that they were also looking for the driver of a Ford Fiesta type car that stopped to offer assistance but then drove off.

The murder weapon, a knife was not found.
