The body of a newly-born male child was found in a shallow grave in the common near White Post Hill at Redhill on 17 May 1962.

It was found at 7.30pm.

It was found to have superficial bruising on its forehead.

The cause of death was given as a fractured skull, and the inquest, held on 13 June 1962, returned an open verdict.

It was noted that another child's body was found 200 yards away in June 1962 and it was considered that they were almost certainly connected crimes, but were recorded as separate crimes as there was no positive evidence to connect the two.
