Edwin Wooding died from massive head injuries.

He was found apparently intoxicated in Hammersmith Metropolitan Line Tube station and taken to a cell to sober up. however, when he failed to come around a doctor was called for, and after he was examined he was rushed to Charing Cross Hospital.

He underwent emergency surgery, but died four days later on Saturday, 29 August 1992.

He had been a well-known vagrant.

The police were reported to have used Tube station video recordings to find out whether he had been attacked in the hours before he was found and later said that they believed that he had been attacked late on the Tuesday night, 25 August 1992 in Ladbroke Grove after which he had made his way to Hammersmith Station where he was later found.

The police said that they started to treat his death as suspicious after his post mortem found bruises on his body.
