Harry Tompkins

Age: 74

Sex: male

Date: 7 Oct 1953

Place: Blackpool, Lancashire

Harry Tompkins was found dead on a sandbank at Blackpool on Saturday 3 October 1953.

An open verdict was returned at his inquest.

It was heard that he had left home in Birmingham early on the Friday to see some friends at a market in Birmingham with between £70 and £80 on him.

An airman said that he had seen a man climb over the railing son the pier and go over into the sea. He said, 'I shouted, but he either did not listen or did not want to. He went over into the sea'. However, the Coroner said that it was not certain that the man that the airman had seen was Harry Tompkins and an open verdict was returned.

Harry Tompkins was a retired greengrocer and had lived in Wright Street, Small Heath, Birmingham.
