Frederick William Hammonds

Age: 74

Sex: male

Date: 5 Jan 1955

Place: Belmont Street, Aberdeen

Frederick William Hammonds was found dead in the rear of some premises in Belmont Street on Wednesday 5 January 1955.

He was found at about 1pm by a man who was on his way to a garage in the yard.

He was found in a sitting position in a yard behind the premises in Belmont Street but was not identified until the following day.

It was not known what he was doing there as he lived at 12 Thornhill Road in Birmingham and had travelled 400 miles to get there. He had left Birmingham on Hogmanay but it was not known why or where he had stayed whilst in Aberdeen and the police appealed for anyone that knew of his movements whilst in Aberdeen to come forward.

He had been dressed in a blue pin-striped suit, fawn raincoat, black socks and boots and had been wearing a white collar with a blue-grey checked tie, white silk scarf and a black bowler hat.

He was a retired bakery foreman and it was thought that he had died from natural causes. He was identified by his brother who lived in Burton-on-Trent.
