Anthony Wynch

Age: 50

Sex: male

Date: 1 Jan 1955

Place: Inchview Terrace, Portobello, Edinburgh

Anthony Wynch was found lying injured in the street on New Year's Day and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he died about twelve hours later.

He had died from fatal head injuries.

He was found unconscious at about 6.30am on New Year's morning in Inchview Terrace, Portobello by a policeman as he was going off duty suffering from severe head injuries.

He was from Saltram Crescent in London, but ordinarily stayed in a nearby boarding house when he was in Edinburgh on trips but it was determined that he had not as yet checked in when he was found.

He was a dining car attendant and was well known to travellers on the London to Edinburgh trains and would spend alternate nights in each city whilst working.

It was thought that he had arrived in Musselburgh for a Hogmanay party a couple of hours earlier at 4am in a taxi and the police said that they were interested in tracing the taxi that brought him there.

The police said that they were also interested in speaking to a couple that were said to have been seen standing at a police box near to the place where Anthony Wynch was found.

They said that they had not established whether Anthony Wynch had hurt himself, whether he had been the victim of a hit and run, or whether he had been beaten up.
