The body of a newly-born female child was found in Ditton Brook in Halewood on Sunday 17 October 1954.
It was found submerged and entangled in a tree by a 20-year-old man from Milner Road in Aigburth.
The inquest returned the verdict that the child's death was due to inattention at birth.
The pathologist said that the child's death had occurred between five and ten days before the post mortem.
The child's mother was untraced.
