Sex: male

Date: 30 Jul 1955

Place: Lime Street Station

The body of a newly-born male child was found in a small weekend case in a carriage in sidings at Lime Street Station on 30 July 1954.

A detective involved in the investigation into the child's death said that the carriage that the body was found in was from part of a train that had recently travelled up from Birmingham the previous evening, 29 July 1955.

He said that enquiries had failed to trace the person that had left the case in the carriage.

The Home Office pathologist said that the child had lived for a minimum of only one or two minutes and that its death was due to asphyxia following the inhalation of some foreign material.

An open verdict was returned.
