The remains of a newly-born child were found in the grate of a fireplace on Thursday 28 July 1955.
An inquest into the child's death concluded that the baby died from unknown causes.
The child was born at home to a woman who said that she had tried to feed the child but that it had difficulty in taking food and then later had difficulty in breathing and then died two days later after which she said that she blessed it and put its body on the fire.
After the body was discovered the mother was taken to Crumpsall Hospital were she was questioned on Thursday 28 July 1955.
An open verdict was returned at an inquest on Friday 19 August 1955 but the Coroner said that he was satisfied that the mother had not harmed the baby whilst it was alive.
