Belly Mujinga

Age: 47

Sex: female

Date: 5 Apr 2020

Place: Victoria Station, London

Belly Mujinga died from Covid. At some point before a person was alleged to have deliberately coughed and spat in her face claiming they had the virus.

Belly Mujinga had been a railway worker.

She died on 5 April 2020 from Covid.

At her inquest it was heard that the 57-year-old man that had allegedly spat at her would not form a part of the inquest into her death.

The man was referred to as AB. It was heard that a test on the man, carried out on 25 March 2020, found him to be negative for the virus.

He was said to have spat at her two days before the nationwide lockdown on 21 March 2020 whilst she was on duty on the concourse at Victoria station where she worked as a sales clerk for Govia Thameslink Railway.

The Crown Prosecution Service later stated that there was insufficient evidence to charge anyone with a homicide related offence or assault or public order offences. However, it was noted that their decision caused an outcry and that a petition calling on them to review their decision was signed by more than two million people.

It was said that a colleague of Belly Mujinga had reported the incident on 21 March 2020 but that Govia Thameslink Railway later said on 16 September 2020 that the attack never happened because it was not reported. However, a BBC documentary later showed CCTV footage that allegedly showed Belly Mujinga running away after she was spat at. However, the police stated that the CCTV evidence was inconclusive.

Belly Mujinga was said to have had underlying health issues that had placed her in the vulnerable category and was said to have been one of the first frontline workers to die from Covid.
