Kyle Gareth Whitley

Age: 18

Sex: male

Date: 13 Apr 2020

Place: Vincent Road, Litherland

Kyle Gareth Whitley was stabbed at his home in Vincent Road, Litherland on13 April 2020.

After being stabbed he collapsed a short time later in an alleyway.

Five people were arrested for his murder but no one was charged.

He had been stabbed in broad daylight and was found collapsed in the alleyway off Vincent Road at about 2.35pm on 13 April.

He had a single stab wound to the chest that had grazed his heart and punctured his right lung.

He was taken to Aintree Hospital where he died less than an hour later at 3.11pm.

The pathologist said that it would have been possible for Kyle Whitley to have walked some distance after having been stabbed.

A Home Office Forensic Pathologist said, 'Incidents like these are highly dynamic in nature and so it's not possible to reliably determine characteristics of the individual who has inflicted the wound, such as height. This is because the relative positions of the victim and assailant at the time are unknown. An additional complication is that it's possible to hold a knife in different ways and inflict the same wound'.

It was thought that he might have been exploited by an organised crime group before he was killed.

It was thought that he might have been stabbed in his home and then dragged out into the alleyway. He had been home at the time with three male friends when he was stabbed and one of them called the emergency services and CPR was carried out.

When the police examined his home they found that many of the drawers and cupboards had been opened, which they said suggested that someone had searched his home looking for something.

They said that there were no signs of forced entry at his flat on the day of his murder.

The police also spoke to a man there that told them that he had been Kyle Whitley's friend, however, the inquest heard that it was suspected that he had been a member of an organised crime group, and although he had claimed to be Kyle Whitley's friend, he was arrested as he tried to destroy his own mobile phone after the incident. He had said that he had spoken to Kyle Whitley the day before he died and that he had told him that he had been attacked with a knife and had suffered a head injury, which it was later thought would have accounted for some blood found on a cap at the scene.

The police later released video footage of the route they thought that Kyle Whitley's killer took to get to his house, going from Church Road to the flats on Vincent Road, Litherland.

Further CCTV footage caught the man leaving the area, going along Vincent Road towards Daley Road.

The police also released another video which showed a route through gardens along the rear of Moss Lane, leading onto Moss Lane and towards Church Road, which was thought to have been used by a second person following the stabbing.

They said, 'Extensive enquiries have established the routes we believe those who were involved in Kyle’s murder took to get to Vincent Road, where Kyle was stabbed, and the routes they took when they left the scene'.

It was noted that his murder took place on the first day of the Covid lockdown. The police said, 'Although on the day of Kyle’s death we were in the first national lockdown, I am sure there were people out and about, in their cars, or on foot, maybe exercising, or a key worker going to, or coming home from work. This was also the Easter Bank holiday Monday and so many people may have been out in their gardens and may have heard or seen something. If you were one of those people and were in the area of Vincent Road, Moss Lane or Daley Road between 2pm and 3pm that day I would urge you to come forward as you may, without realising, have seen something which could be vital to our investigation'.

Kyle Whitley had had a son.
