Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 3 Nov 1955

Place: St James Cemetery, Liverpool

The body of a newly-born male child was found at the foot of a tree in St James Cemetery alongside Liverpool Cathedral.

The body was found wrapped in a piece of old blanket and two newspapers. The bundle was found lying at the foot of the tree about five yards from the railings at the Upper Duke Street end of the cemetery.

It was seen at about 3.10pm on Thursday 3 November 1955 by a 65-year-old cemetery employee that lived at Claypole Street in Edge Hill. He said that the parcel had definitely only been lying in the cemetery for a short time as he had made an inspection of the cemetery earlier at 11am and said that the parcel was not there then.

The newspapers that the child was wrapped up in were a Sunday paper dated 30 October 1955 and a daily paper dated 1 October 1955 which was a Monday.
