The body of a newly-born female child was found wrapped up in brown paper on the foreshore of the River Thames at Barnes.

Police from the CID said that they were working on the theory that the child had been murdered.

The child was wrapped up in paper and was unclothed.

The body was found by Thames Police officers whilst patrolling the river at 9.30am. They then took it to Richmond Mortuary where a post mortem was carried out.

The post mortem showed that the child had lived after birth and had been alive when wrapped up in the parcel and thrown into the river.

The child’s cause of death was given as drowning.
