Jordan Cole Higham

Age: 25

Sex: male

Date: 6 Nov 2017

Place: Nicol Mere Drive, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Lancashire

Jordan Higham died after being detained by people making a citizens arrest in Nicol Mere Drive, Ashton-in-Makerfield in the early hours of Monday 6 November 2017.

He was found unresponsive in the street by the police at about 3:15am and taken to a hospital in Wigan where he died.

It was said that he had died from a cardiac arrest as a result of being chased and restrained and that he had been chased after he was suspected of attempting to steal tools from cars.

However, one newspaper reported that he had been 'beaten to death by two men who caught him stealing' in mob justice.

Two men aged 24 and 27 were initially arrested on suspicion of murder and the police opened a murder investigation but they were later released and both the Crown Prosecution Service and the police later said that they were not going to take any further action over the matter.

It was said that he had been trying to steal tools from locked vans and that the area had been blighted by similar thefts in the past.

One neighbour was reported as having said, 'The first I knew of it was when I saw the cordon in the morning. It is quite scary. It is usually very quiet around here, there are lots of families and everyone is really nice and friendly'.

Jordan Higham had worked at Reilly Concrete Pumping.
