Francois Delaunay

Age: 41

Sex: male

Date: 5 Jul 2017

Place: Grimsby Docks, Grimsby, Lincolnshire

Francois Delaunay was found in the sea off of Spurn Point and then later brought back to the Royal Dock in Grimsby off Railway Street by the coastguard

He was found in the water just before 10am on 5 July 2017 and the police were called to the docks just after 10.30am.

His identity was not known at first but he was later identified as a Frenchman who was thought to have fallen from a chemical tanker berthed in Saltend Jetty in the River Humber the previous month and the police said that there were no suspicious circumstances regarding his death.

He was identified by his dental records.

His post mortem stated that he had suffered from a head injury which he was thought to have received as he fell from the ship. The inquest heard that he had been reported missing after falling from the ship while attempting to secure a gang plank on 26 June 2017 and that he was not thought to have been wearing a safety helmet.

The Humber Coastguard had been called out to the sighting of his body in the water and a helicopter was also called out after which he was brought back to shore.
