The body of a newly-born child was found in a paper parcel under some floorboards in an unoccupied house in Queens Road, Liverpool on 12 February 1956.
The body was found by an apprentice electrician after he pulled up a length of floorboard near the door and found the parcel between the joists.
The remains of the child were found wrapped up in a brown paper parcel.
The pathologist said that the child had been dead for at least a year and that there was no evidence to establish the sex of the child or whether it had been born alive or dead.
The police said that they had interviewed all the people known to have occupied the house but found nothing to indicate when or by whom the child had been put under the floorboards.
An open verdict was returned.
