The body of a newly-born female child was found dead on the foreshore at Broomhouse Dock in Fulham.

The child had weighed 2lb 8oz, was 12 ½in long and was thought to have been at least nine weeks premature.

When the Coroner summed up he said, 'Evidence suggests that somebody who might have had access to surgical material might have had something to do with it'.

The police said, 'We have made fairly extensive inquiries within the Metropolitan Police district but nothing has come to light'.

The Coroner closed the inquest with an open verdict saying that there was not sufficient evidence to say whether the child had been born alive.
