George Mulin was found injured in Byrom Street, Liverpool at about 9.25pm on 13 February 1957 and it was thought that he had been hit by a motor vehicle. He was taken to hospital where he died on 25 February 1957.
The police said that extensive inquiries were made but that no trace of any vehicle that might have been involved was found.
The Home Office pathologist that carried out his post mortem said that his injuries were consistent with him having been knocked down by a motor vehicle.
An open verdict was returned.
He was a brewer's labourer and had lived at 56b Dingle Lane in Liverpool.
