Beverley Trendall was found stabbed through the heart at her council bedsit-flat in Farman Grove, Northolt on 29 November 1984.
She had been a language student and had been learning Spanish at Pinkwell adult education centre in Hayes.
The police were called to her flat after her mother reported that she had been unable to contact her.
When the police went to her flat they forced their way in and found her on the floor of her living room with a kitchen knife plunged through her heart.
It was thought that she had been dead for almost three weeks.
The police said that there were no signs of a forced entry and no note was found.
She was last seen alive on 31 October 1984 when she left Heathrow Airport where she worked as a cleaner at 8pm.
The police said that they had extended their investigation to Spain where it was thought she had a boyfriend and where she made regular trips.
However, it was also reported that she had started to see a new English boyfriend around the beginning of November and they appealed for him to come forward. THey said that they only had a vague description of the man, that being of a white man in his forties.
It was noted that it was initially thought that her death might have been a suicide, but the police later said:
Beverley Trendall was described as a very quiet woman and a bit of a recluse.
She had driven a white Volkswagen car with red doors and registation TXG 121H, and the police appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
