Michael Ennis was attacked outside the Angelsea Public House on Beresford Road on 2 March 2000.
A man was tried for his manslaughter in November 2000 but acquitted.
Michael Ennis fell and hit his head on the pavement and was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and later transfer to the Aintree University Hospital site, Fazakerley for neurosurgery where he later died.
His cause of death was given as Oedema necrosis of the brain associated with subdural haemorrhage and skull fracture.

The deceased was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and later transfer to the Aintree University Hospital site, Fazakerley for neurosurgery. The deceased died at the hospital and the cause of death was recorded as, “Oedema necrosis of the brain associated with subdural haemorrhage and skull fracture”. Following an investigation, a person was charged in connection with the incident and the Crown Prosecution Service prosecuted the case as Manslaughter at Liverpool Crown Court in November 2000. The case was dismissed, and an acquittal recorded.
