David Lees

Age: 37

Sex: male

Date: 13 May 2000

Place: Tamworth Grove, Moreton, Merseyside

David Lees was stabbed in Tamworth Grove, Moreton.

A man was tried for his murder but acquitted after claiming he stabbed him in self-defence.

David Lees was said to have swung a punch at the man as he left his ex-girlfriend’s house in Tamworth Grove, on 13 May 2000.

The man said that he was particularly scared as David Lees, who was an ex-doorman, had assaulted him sixth months earlier for no reason.

However, David Lees's family said that they were unhappy with the verdict, stating that they believed that David Lees's character had been misrepresented in court. His mother said:

In that court the only person that was really on trial was David.

Her husband said:

The defending QC referred to David as a big lad known to be ferocious, nasty and all the rest of it. He was sort of swearing David's life away. He didn't even know him, never even met him. David was definitely on trial there because he could look after himself and because he had been a doorman eight or nine years ago.

His mother said:

It is unbelievable. As far as we are concerned it has taken us back to last May when David was killed because nobody has taken responsibility for it.
