Edward Byrne was shot at his local pub, the Yew Tree Pub in Finch Lane, Dovecot, on 3 January 2003.
He had spent the day drinking with his family and later went to the pub to see if any of his friends were around for a drink. However, at about 11.25pm a man with a chequered scarf partially covering his face came into the pub and walked up to him, shouted an insult at him, and then shot him in the head. The man then ran off.
