An open verdict was returned on a newly born child that had been burned by its father after he said that it had been born dead.

At the inquest, the Coroner said, 'I think it must surely be true that it has never been the lot of any jury at any inquest to listen to a more gruesome and sickening story then you and I had to listen to today'.
