William Clayton

Age: unknown

Sex: male

Date: 1 Nov 1902

Place: 41 Charlotte Street, Glasgow

William Clayton died in a fire.

A woman was charged with his murder but the charge was found not proven at the Glasgow High Court on Monday 22 December 1902.

It was said that the woman had just got out of prison on the day of the fire and that she had previously said that she would burn up the house because William Clayton' wife had given evidence against her.

When she was arrested she denied having set the fire and blamed William Clayton's wife for doing so.

William Clayton had died from asphyxiation in the fire and the firemen that examined the scene said that the fire seemed to have been a surface fire cuased by something inflammable on the floor.
