Bridget Milward

Age: 38

Sex: female

Date: 5 Nov 1901

Place: Black Weir, Glamorgan Canal, Cardiff

Bridget Milward was found dead in a canal at Cardiff.

A militia man was tried for her manslaughter at the Cardiff Assizes but discharged on Wednesday 26 March 1902.

It was said that he had been seen with another militiaman dragging Bridget Milward, apparently against her will, towards a lonely spot on the banks of the Glamorgan Canal at Cardiff known as Black Weir.

He was said to have said to the other militiaman after he returned to barracks, 'I have finished her. I have chucked her in the canal'.

Bridget Milward had been a married woman but living apart from her husband.
