The body of a newly-born child was found in a canal at Winson Green on Saturday 8 February 1958.
It was first spotted by a woman that had been standing in a queue for coal on a wharf off Lodge Road.
It appeared to have been newly-born and was thought to have been wrapped up in brown paper.
