The body of a newly-born boy was found in a blue canvas hold-all bag in Nell Lane.

The cause of death was said to have probably been inattention at birth.

The man that found the child's body had lived in Stretton Avenue in Didsbury and said that he had been going to work when he found it by the roadside near Southern Cemetery. He said that he then cycled with the bag to Chorlton-cum-Hardy police station and later showed the police where he had found it.

The police said that they were trying to check on people that had bought a similar hold-all as the child had been found in recently.
