Paul Chadeyron

Age: 36

Sex: male

Date: 29 Jun 1986

Place: Cleveland House, Hackford Road, Stockwell

Paul Chadeyron was stabbed to death at the entrance to his flat at Cleveland House in Hackford Road, Stockwell, just after 10.30pm on 29 June 1986.

He was attacked on his doorstep and found dead by neighbours by the entrance to his flat.

He had been a lay preacher and was dedicated to his local church, St Marks, at the Oval and had been there earlier that night.

It was thought that he might have been stabbed by muggers who were enraged that he had no money. He had been stabbed twice in the heart with a seven inch knife which had entered full length.

The Coroner said:

It appears he had been kicked or kneed in the groin before he was stabbed, there was no sign of a struggle, and this seems to have been a sadistic and malicious killing. He was carrying no money when he was assaulted. Personally I  feel that this has the hallmarks of an attempted robbery that went badly wrong.

He had been a solicitor, with an office in Brixton Road, and was noted to have regularly defended young blacks in the area and also, ironically, those accused of muggings.

He had been white.
