Richard William Clements was run over in Park Hall Road at the junction with Rosendale Radon 26 December 1958.
He died from contusion of the lung and multiple fractures.
It was not known how he came to be run over.
A man that had lived in Park Hall Road said that he had seen car go down Rosendale Road and turn round the corner into Park Hall Road at about 10 to 15mph and that he then heard a bang and a shout and then noticed a man underneath the car.
The driver of the car said that a stationary car had made him take the bend rather wide but that didn't see anyone saying that Richard Clements must have been lying in the roadway. He said, 'He must have lying in the roadway. He couldn't possibly have been on his feet before the accident'.
When the Coroner summed up he said, 'There is no evidence to say in what posture Mr Clements was when he was struck. Nobody has seen how he came to be in front of the car which ran him over.
An open verdict was returned.
