John Trindell was found dead on some rafters in the roof of an empty sea-front house at Deal in Kent on 6 August 1959.
He was identified by his fingerprints.
The Coroner said that his body was so decomposed that his cause of death could not be determined and an open verdict was returned.
The police said that John Trindell had been born in 1902 in Kensal Rise, London but that they knew nothing of him since 1920.
A pair of surgical boots that were found beside his body had been made for some other person, but the other person had not been traced.
