Catherine Knight was hit by a Ford Zephyr car that drove off.
She had been crossing the Old Kent Road at a pedestrian crossing with her husband when the Ford Zephyr car knocked them down. The car also hit a 17-year-old girl.
The car was then seen by passers-by to drive on without stopping.
Following the incident Catherine Knight was taken to hospital where she later died. Her husband was also described as being seriously ill but the 17-year-old girl was discharged after being treated for minor injuries.
Catherine Knight had lived in Alscot Road, Bermondsey.
