Baby

Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 4 Sep 1959

Place: Regents Park Canal, Lodge Road, St Johns Wood, London

The body of a baby was found in the Regents Park Canal near Lodge Road in St Johns Wood, London.

It was wrapped up in a newspaper dated 26 February 1959.

The pathologist that examined the child said that he was unable to say whether the child had had a separate existence due to decomposition of the body.

Following a police investigation the Coroner said that as there was no evidence that the child had been born alive that it would be considered still-born and that the matter would be left at that. The Coroner noted that the date on the newspaper didn't help matters at all.

The police said that they had conducted enquiries into the case but said that no information as to the identity of the child had been obtained.

The Coroner noted that all inquiries that could be made had been made.

The inquest had opened on Friday 4 September 1959 at St Pancras and concluded on Friday 11 September 1959.
