Mary Divers died after an assault.

Her husband was charged with having killed her by beating and punching her but it was claimed that she had received her injuries in a fall whilst intoxicated as well as having been kicked by another woman.

It was said that her husband had assaulted her on several occasions between 6 June 1903 and 18 July 1903.

Mary Divers died in the Poorhouse Hospital on 5 August 1903.

It was heard that the evidence revealed a shocking state of domestic infelicity through drunkenness and also showed that Mary Divers had been fighting with neighbours on the night that she was beaten by her husband. 

Her husband was convicted of assault and sentenced to one months' imprisonment.

Mary Divers was also known as Mary Jasper.
