Man

Age: unknown

Sex: male

Date: 21 Mar 1960

Place: No. 12 Wharf, Newcastle, Quay, River Tyne

The body of a man was found in the River Tyne near No 12 Wharf of Newcastle Quay.

His body was found around March 1960 but his inquest, which took place on Wednesday 21 September 1960 stated that after nearly six months his identity was still a mystery.

The inquest held into his death heard that his cause of death could not be determined because of the state of decomposition and an open verdict was returned.

It was heard that some of the clothing that he had been wearing had come from St Nicholas's Hospital in Gosforth but the police said that their inquiries found that all men discharged before the man's body was found had been accounted for.
