The body of a baby was found in a canvas holdall at Newcastle Central Railway Station.
The holdall had been left at the luggage department of the station on Tuesday 28 June 1960 between 3pm and 11pm. It had been deposited along with a bucket type bag and had included articles of clothing that were thought might help identify the child.
The child had had ginger hair.
The police said that they didn't know whether the child had been dead before it was placed in the bag.
