The body of a newly-born female child was found in a parcel in the gutter between 81 and 83 Ladbroke Road in Kensington, London.

It was found by a sweeper employed by the Kensington Borough Council and who lived in Bangor Street.

He said that he found a brown paper parcel in the gutter between 81 and 83 Ladbroke Road on the Friday morning, 15 May 1903 and opened it. He said that when he found that it contained the body of a child that he took it to Notting Hill Police Station.

The police then took the parcel to the mortuary where it was examined and found to be a female child wrapped up in newspaper, four sheets of brown paper and an article of women's underwear.

There were no marks to lead to identification.

The doctor that examined the child said that there were no marks of injury on it and that it was fully developed and had been dead for a few days. He said that it had died from want of skilled attention at birth. 

The jury returned an open verdict and left it to the police to make further inquiries.
