Man

Age: unknown

Sex: male

Date: 24 Sep 1961

Place: Corran Ferry, Fort William, Invernessshire

The body of a man was found dead tied to a bicycle on the slipway of Corran Ferry near Fort William.

It was found at about 10am on Sunday 24 September 1961 by a visitor to the ferry about half an hour before the ferry was due to sail. He said that he saw an object lying beside a bicycle and found that it was the body of a man wearing a blue striped suit with black oil-skin trousers.

The rope was said to have been tied round the man's body and fixed to the handlebars.

It was found lying near a concrete block about 50ft from the water's edge and showed no signs of having been in the water.

The body was said to have been left there for some time whilst the police examined the scene before it was later taken to the mortuary in Fort William by the police.

The ferry man that ran the ferry said that he had noticed nothing unusual when the ferry had finished its daily run the day before at about 9pm.

The man's death was described as a riddle.
