Stephen McIntyre

Age: 76

Sex: male

Date: 19 Oct 1992

Place: George Street, Lozells, West Midlands

Stephen McIntyre was hacked down in George Street, Lozells, near to where he lived.

He bled to death after his throat was slashed.

Stephen McIntyre had lived in Heathfield Court in George Street, a block of old people's flats. After being attacked he had managed to stagger back to his doorstep.

The flats had offered sheltered accommodation for 60 old people.

A 76-year-old man that lived in the flats said that he saw Stephen McIntyre walking into the car park next to the home minutes before he collapsed at 7.10pm on the Monday, 19 October 1992. He said, 'I was upstairs in my room when he came back towards the front of the building and appeared to stumble over something. When I saw he was still there about a quarter of an hour later I went down to see what had happened'.

He said that he then found that he was dead and called the police.

The police combed gardens and roads near to the scene in a hunt for the murder weapon.

His post mortem stated that he died from a massive haemorrhage due to a severe neck wound caused by a knife.

In an effort to track down his killer, scores of murder posters were printed and put up in public buildings around George Street. A police spokesman said, 'We are hoping the posters will bring a good response from the public'.

It was noted that the attack on Stephen McIntyre would have left his assailant heavily blood-stained.

His murder was said to have left pensioners living in fear. Other tenants in the flats said that Stephen McIntyre's murder was the latest in a spate of violent attacks in the area.

Stephen McIntyre was said to have walked with a limp and to have had an Irish accent. He was described as an amiable gentleman.

The housing association that owned Heathfield Court, Anchor Housing Association, said that Stephen McIntyre had lived in the flats for six years.
