Linda Chandler was stabbed to death on her doorstep in Fairbourne Avenue, Kingstanding on 18 April 1997.
She collapsed in a neighbour’s arms and was taken to City Hospital but was dead on arrival. She had been stabbed in the chest and back.
A 43-year-old man was questioned by the police but later released without charge.
The police said that they thought that the murderer had fled through a number of nearby alleyways but that they might also have had a car parked nearby.
The police carried out searches in the area, including local drains. They also carried out house-to-house enquiries.
Linda Chandler was a widow, her husband having died eight year's earlier and had two daughters and had worked as a secretary at Birmingham City University.
