Jodine Brown

Age: 17

Sex: female

Date: 18 Jul 1997

Place: Saint Road, West Heath, West Midlands

Jodine Brown was beaten, drugged and strangled in her bedroom in Saint Road, West Heath on 15 July 1997.

She had been drugged and struck over the head before being strangled. At her inquest in 1999 the coroner said, 'The injuries on her body were not self-inflicted or the result of an accident'. Her cause of death was given as compression to the neck while intoxicated with drugs.

Her body was found on her bedroom floor dressed in a blue silk nightdress at her home in Sant Road, West Heath on 18 July 1997.

She was found by her mother after she returned from a four-day break and it was thought that she had been dead for about four days.

Neighbours said that they had heard raised voices from Jodine Brown's house on the Tuesday morning, 15 July, at about 3am.

The inquest heard that a large, but not fatal amount of drugs for colds was found in her system. She also had ligature marks around her neck that had been caused by either a chain or narrow cord and bruising was found on her hands that could have been caused by someone grasping her.

She had formerly been a pupil at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School and had been due to marry her 23-year-old boyfriend, who at the time had been in Winson Green jail, the following month.

She had been described by her mother as a loner who didn't have many friends, but to have never been in any trouble and to have been looking for a job as a clerical administrator at the time.

An ex-school friend said, 'She never even got detention at school. She was a complete angel who went through her school life without even a late mark against her name'.
