Darren Round was found in a canal near Masshouse Lane, in Kings Norton, Birmingham.

He had received facial injuries before he went in.

The police later released CCTV footage of a man that they were interested in tracing.

Darren Round had left his home in Kings Norton at 7.30pm on Friday 14 February 2020 and thought to have gone for a walk along the Birmingham canal.

At 7.45pm he withdrew money from a cash machine at the Post Office in Kings Norton Green and purchased alcohol from an off licence after which he followed the canal into the city centre, a distance of about five miles each way.

He was last seen in CCTV at around 12.40am on the Friday morning walking along the canal near to Wharf Road Bridge heading towards Shannon Tunnel.

His body was found the following morning at 8.40am in the canal near Masshouse Lane in Kings Norton, returning the way he had gone.

He had injuries consistent with having been assaulted, however, none of his possessions were taken and the police said that they had not found a motive.

Darren Round was said to have frequently gone for walks along the canal network.

He had been wearing a light blue coat and jeans at the time and had had a rucksack on his back.
