Andre Moura

Age: 30

Sex: male

Date: 6 Jul 2018

Place: Seventh Avenue, Limeside, Oldham

Andre Moura died after being arrested by the police.

He had lived in Seventh Avenue in Oldham and the police had been called to his address after receiving reports of a domestic incident.

When they arrived he was restrained and sprayed with CS gas by six policemen. However, he was later found to be unresponsive in the back of the police van and died later in Tameside Hospital the following day at 1.30am.

He had first been taken to Ashton-under-Lyne police station.

Neighbours that saw the arrested described the use of force as excessive.

Andre Moura was heard to shout, 'Help' and the police were heard to shout, 'stop resisting'.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct carried out an investigation but said that there was not enough evidence to press manslaughter charges, noting, 'The threshold for an IOPC referral is lower than the threshold applied by the CPS when they consider whether to charge someone with a criminal offence. They added, 'We have concluded there is insufficient evidence for any manslaughter, assault or misconduct in public office criminal charges against any of those officers'.

In January 2021 the Crown Prosecution Service later said that no criminal charges would be brought against any individual police officers, but said that they might face an internal disciplinary hearing later that year.
