Edith Annie Zanelli was found dead in a lake in Crane Park, Twickenham on 10 October 1961.
She had gone missing on 25 November 1960. On the day she disappeared she had been to see her doctor who later recalled that she had been agitated about some family problem.
A woman said that Edith Zanelli called at her shop later that afternoon and had seemed worried.
However, her husband, who was a cleaner, said that he and Edith Zanelli were quite happy together and that he knew of no reason why she should 'wander away'.
The police said that 95 police officers including dog handlers and Thames Division police had taken part in the search for her body.
When she was found she was partly clothed.
Two doctors that examined her remains said that they found no signs of injury and were unable to give a cause of death.
She had lived in Carfax Road, Hayes.
Her inquest, which was held in Ealing, heard that there was nothing to show the cause of death and an open verdict was returned.
