Winifred Barlow died from an illegal operation.
A woman was tried for her manslaughter but convicted of the lesser offence of performing an illegal operation.
It is not clear why she was acquitted of manslaughter.
When the judge passed sentence he said that it should be generally known that people convicted of performing illegal operations were liable to be punished with penal servitude for life. He said, 'Every time anyone commits this offence they run the risk of killing somebody and of killing them after hours of utmost agony. Women should know that'.
Reaston Street has since been redeveloped.
