A 49-year-old woman was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent but not with killing her.
Nicola Bray's cause of death is not known. She had suffered fractures to her right eye socket and left jawbone as well as bleeding and bruising.
She was found dead on her settee a few hours after the assault at her home in Scrivener Road, Cliffe Vale, Stoke-on-Trent.
