The body of a newly-born child was found in a pond at Ingatestone.
It was found on the Sunday afternoon, 9 March 1902.
The body had been quite nude and had the appearance of having been in the water for about two months.
A doctor that carried out the post mortem said that the body was that of a fully developed child but that owing to the state of decomposition that he had been unable to say whether it had had a separate existence.
The inquest had taken place at the nearby Woolpack Inn.
An open verdict was returned.
