Man

Age: unknown

Sex: male

Date: 1 Oct 1902

Place: Birmingham Canal, West Smethwick, West Midland

A man was found dead in the Birmingham Canal around October 1902.

He was soon after identified by six of his relations and buried and some insurance money claimed.

However, in early November 1902 the man that the relatives identified returned home around midnight, sending his grandmother into hysterics.

When one of his relatives said, 'Why, we had you buried, grandfather' the man had replied, 'Aye, but the lid was not strong enough'.

It was then revealed that he had been roving about the country for some twelve months.

However, it was not determined who the man that was buried after being found in the canal was.
