Harry Morris

Age: 67

Sex: male

Date: 7 Jun 2019

Place: S and B Fruits, Water Street, Earby

Harry Morris died following an assault at his shop in June 2019.

A woman was tried but medical evidence stated that she played no part in his death.

He had run Pete SB Fruits on Walter Street in Earby. He was assaulted there at about 10am on Tuesday 4 June 2019. He was found unconscious and taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he died on Friday 7 June 2019.

The woman had been seen struggling with Harry Morris at his shop, with witnesses saying that he had been escorting her out of his shop whilst she was asking him for money. During the struggle Harry Morris was said to have fallen backwards and hit his head on the door after which the woman fell on top of him. However, the pathologist that carried out the post mortem said that any injury that Harry Morris might have suffered during the struggle could not have been caused by the woman.

The pathologist said, 'Whatever the circumstances of the struggle, there is no suggestion of the defendant doing anything other than passively resisting a no doubt proper attempt to remove her from the premises'.

The woman had initially been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and robbery.

The charge of robbery against the woman, relating to Harry Morris, was also later dropped. However, she still faced a theft offence and a charge related to the unauthorised taking of a Land Rover Freelander car on the same day.  She also faced a separate charge of affray and assault relating to Harry Morris's step-daughter on 23 April 2019.
