Annie Walker was found dead in her front room on 2 April 1969.
When she was found she was in her nightdress. It was thought that she had been beaten about the head with a blunt edged weapon but the murder wepon was never found.
It was thought that her murderer had stolen £1,000 in cash from her home as she had just been to the bank to withdraw that amount earlier that day and no trace of it was found.
She was a former pub landlady and had lived alone.
A 30-year-old man was suspected but there was insufficient evidence to prosecute.
Her murder was known as the 'Coronation Street Murder'.
